Terms and conditions
Version of 21 October 2026
In shortPublish original work you have the right to share; reviewers keep manuscripts confidential; articles are published open access under CC BY 4.0; a £1,000 fee is charged only once a manuscript is accepted for publication; and published papers earn their authors points that are paid out, under the rules below.
1. About these terms
These terms are an agreement between you and [Company name], a company registered in England and Wales (number [Company number]), registered office [Registered office address] (“Scitrino”, “we”). By creating an account or using Scitrino you agree to them. Our privacy policy explains how we use your data, and our editorial policies explain how we handle submissions. If we change these terms in a way that matters, we will ask you to accept the new version the next time you sign in.
2. Your account
- Give accurate details and keep them up to date. An account is for one person.
- Keep your password safe. Tell us at once if you think someone else has used your account.
- You must be 18 or over.
3. Using Scitrino
- Do not post anything unlawful, defamatory, harassing or discriminatory, or anything that infringes someone else’s rights.
- Comments on articles should be about the research. We may remove comments, and suspend accounts, that break these rules.
- Do not try to get into parts of Scitrino you are not allowed to see, interfere with how it works, or collect other users’ data.
4. Authors
What you confirm when you submit
- The work is original, is not published elsewhere, and is not under consideration by another journal.
- Every listed author agreed to the submission and meets our authorship criteria. Co-authors confirm this themselves in Scitrino.
- You have the right to publish everything in it, including figures, tables and data from other sources, and it infringes no one’s rights.
- Research on people or animals had the required ethics approval, and participants gave informed consent. Any participant data is anonymised so that no one can be identified.
- Your funding and competing-interest declarations are complete and accurate.
Licence and copyright
You and your co-authors keep the copyright. Published articles are released under the Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 International (CC BY 4.0) licence, so anyone may share and adapt them with credit. You give Scitrino a non-exclusive, worldwide, perpetual right to edit for format, publish, distribute and archive the article, and to keep it available as part of the scientific record.
Publication fee
Submission and peer review are free, and nothing is payable for a manuscript that is not accepted. A publication fee of £1,000 per manuscript (plus VAT where it applies) is due once your final proof is accepted. We invoice the institution you name; invoices are payable within 30 days. We publish the article when payment is received. If the fee is not paid, the article is not published.
Corrections, retractions and withdrawal
You may withdraw a submission at any time before publication, free of charge. After publication, articles are corrected or retracted following our editorial policies and the guidance of the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE). Corrections and retractions are public, and earlier versions stay available.
5. Reviewers
- Manuscripts under review are confidential. Do not share them, discuss them, use them for your own work, or upload them to AI tools or other services.
- Decline an invitation if you have a conflict of interest or cannot review in time.
- Review fairly and on scientific soundness. Your identity is not shown to the authors; your review and decision are shared with the editor and the authors.
6. Earnings and payouts
- Payouts are made by Scitrino from its own revenue. Your institution pays only the publication fee; it does not pay you.
- When a paper is published and its fee received, it earns 100 points, shared equally between its authors with a double share for the lead author. A point’s value is fixed each month from that month’s author pool; it is normally £1.
- Points are frozen for six months after publication. After that they become available and are paid out monthly.
- We pay in pounds sterling through our payment provider, Wise, which can convert the payment to your currency. The minimum payout is £20; smaller balances roll over to the next month. You must give accurate payment details.
- If a paper is retracted because of an honest error, its points are removed. If an investigation finds misconduct, the authors responsible lose three times the points the paper earned. Deductions larger than your balance are taken from future earnings.
- Payments may count as income. You are responsible for any tax due on them, and for checking whether your employer or funder allows you to accept them. If you prefer, you can ask us to pay your institution instead, or to waive your earnings.
- We may hold back a payment while we look into suspected fraud or misconduct, or where the law does not allow us to make it.
- Points are not wages, a share in Scitrino, or an investment, and they cannot be sold or transferred. Points never influence editorial or peer-review decisions.
- We may change these rules for the future with at least 30 days’ notice. Changes never reduce points already earned, except as set out above.
7. Liability
We work hard to keep Scitrino available and accurate, but provide it “as is” and cannot promise it will always be uninterrupted or error-free. Articles are the work of their authors; we do not guarantee their conclusions. We are not liable for indirect or consequential losses, or for loss of profit, data or opportunity. Our total liability to you is limited to the greater of £100 and the publication fees paid for your articles in the previous 12 months. Nothing in these terms limits liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence, for fraud, or for anything else the law does not allow us to limit.
8. Ending
You can delete your account at any time from Account settings. Ask for any available balance to be paid before you do: balances still frozen or under the minimum when you delete your account are forfeited. If you do not use your account for 3 years, we email you and delete it 30 days later unless you sign in. We never delete an account this way while earnings are still due to you or a submission or review of yours is in progress. We may suspend or close accounts that seriously or repeatedly break these terms. Published articles remain published.
9. Law
These terms are governed by the law of England and Wales, and the courts of England and Wales have jurisdiction. If you live elsewhere in the UK, you may also bring proceedings in your local courts. Questions: info@scitrino.com.
